ARHS Boy’s Tennis

Do you have a passion for the game of Tennis?  Love being a part of a team and competing??  The ARHS Boy’s Tennis team is hosting open tryouts for committed student-athletes that are current student who live in the ARHS attendance zone and are in grades 7-12.  A willingness to give maximal effort and to up your game is required!


Physical packets can be printed off the school website, gofoxes.org, or can be picked up in the front office.  Physicals must be for the 2016-2017 school year.  No athlete can participate without one.  Turn in the physical to Coach Hurley.  Also, the concussion form must be filled out by your parent or guardian and returned to Coach Hurley.  jhurley@dorchester2.k12.sc.us


Tryouts will be January 30th and 31st at the ARHS tennis courts starting at 4:15 and ending at 5:30 PM.  Bring appropriate tennis athletic wear, shoes, racquet, water bottle and sunscreen!


Coach Hurley will be looking for specific qualities in prospective students athletes that are expected in all members that represent the ARHS tennis team.  The following attributes are the most important part of each student’s individual consideration during the tryout process, listed in order of importance.

Coachable– Athletes should show a willingness to improve their game, and have a great work ethic.  Athletes should follow direction, stay on task and work hard at all times.

Attitude– Athletes should bring a positive attitude at all time, show mental toughness/determination, and be COMPETITIVE in both practice and play.  These qualities are essential for every athlete.  Above all else athletes should NEVER GIVE UP!

Ability– Athletes will be evaluated on ability to perform the complex techniques of tennis with an emphasis on movement and FOOTWORK!  A developed forehand, backhand, serve and return will also be essential skills for each player to possess.

Commitment – A team is only as strong as each member’s individual commitments to it.  Athletes only committed to themselves need not apply.

-Help take out and put up equipment such as baskets and water coolers

-Hustle at all times during drills, match play, and when shagging balls

-Be a good teammate!

-Practice tennis on your own or with a partner and work on your technique
