The ARHS swim team visited Beech Hill Elementary School to participate in Buddy Reading Time. The high school students helped K5 and 1st graders pick out books and read with them, asking them questions and encouraging them to read in and out of school.
Many of the swimmers were former Beacons themselves. The swimmers were excited to share their favorite books from when they were little as well.
ARHS Media Specialist, Lauren Spivey said “The swim team members that participated did a great job working with the students at Beech Hill. Watching them all interact, it was obvious that everyone was having fun, which is one of the best ways to promote reading with the elementary students. The younger students definitely felt special having the “big kids” that they look up to reading with them, while the older students had fun sharing their favorite stories from when they were growing up.”
